For over 40 years, DuPont has been dedicated to educational activities and positively contributing to the local economy. DuPont’s 150 employees and 70 contractors are involved in numerous community and professional organizations in the area. PPDA, the main product made by DuPont at the Pontchartrain facility is used to produce Kevlar™ used in bullet-resistant vests that have saved the lives of many police officers and military personnel. Other products include IPDA used in the manufacture of adhesives and OPDA used to produce fungicides.

There was no change in air emissions compared to 2007. Land emissions decreased 5%, due to a decrease in PPDA production compared with 2007. Off-site emissions increased 4,000 pounds due to disposal of incident contaminated dirt.

DuPont is committed to protecting the environment and the safety and health of the community and our employees. DuPont complies with federal and state environmental regulations and annually certifies its compliance to EPA and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Protection. Last year, DuPont achieved Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) status meaning OSHA recognizes the facility has an exemplary, comprehensive safety and health management system.
