This will be EVONIK’S first year reporting as owner/operator of the Reserve Plant. This site is a specialty chemical manufacturing site with 48 direct and five contract employees. The site’s main product line is nonionic surfactants – or more simply – liquid soaps used in industrial and institutional cleaning products. The plant also produces waterborne epoxy resin coatings. These are zero VOC, waterborne, epoxy resins. They are used in floor sealers, paints and anticorrosive coatings for metal Original Equipment Manufacturing.

In 2016 annual production at the facility increased from 86.51 to 87.93 million Total emissions in thousands of pounds pounds, however Surfynol production increased from 7.4 to 8.4 million pounds. Air emission rates were up, resulting in an increase in reported emissions from 10,904 to 12,353 pounds. Overall off-site disposal increased from 117,007 to 139,203 pounds. The increase in air emissions and off-site disposal amount corresponded with the increase in total production and Surfynol production, which generates Methyl isobutyl ketone.

In May 2017, the Reserve site celebrated over three years without an OSHA recordable incident and over 26 years without a lost time accident, becoming the first Evonik site in the Nutrition and Care business segment to reach more than 25 years without a lost time accident.
