As part of Evonik Industries Consumer Specialties Business Unit and Baby Care Business Line, Evonik Stockhausen, LLC manufactures super absorbent polymers that are used in a variety of applications from consumer goods to agricultural products. The use of super absorbent in diapers helps keep babies dry and comfortable. The polymer is used in agriculture as a soil enhancer and in the cable industry.

Air emissions in 2010 remained approximately the same at 5,000 pounds. Through administrative and engineering controls in 2010 we had no off-site emissions to report. In 2010, Evonik Stockhausen, LLC maintained the dual certification in ISO 14001:2004 and Responsible Care® 14001:2005. In league with our ESHQ Policy, a company wide initiative to reduce Evonik’s environmental impact by 20% from 2004-2014 is well underway at the Garyville site. Based on our environmental performance in 2010 we have reduced emissions by 10%, water consumption by 40% and waste generation by 56% compared to 2004. In late 2010 Evonik approved a multi-million dollar investment in the site infrastructure for the purpose of constructing a co-generation boiler system that will provide steam and electricity for the site.

Safe production has always been a priority. We have worked from 1999 to present with only 13 OSHA recordables and have experienced only two lost time injuries since 1997. The annual goal is always zero injuries. In addition to a robust program that focuses on the recognition of everyday safety activities, employees are involved in safety teams, training, inspections and audits to help improve plant safety.

Evonik Stockhausen, LLC has 84 full time employees and a contractor workforce ranging from 25 to 50. 60% of employees live in St. John the Baptist and St. James Parishes.
