Nalco Company’s manufactured pounds of finished products increased 0.3% from 2007 to 2008. The Garyville facility manufactured 444,932,000 pounds of finished product in 2008. Air emissions decreased in 2008 as the result of better emission control during the manufacture of products used in potable and process water applications. 2008 air emissions were 2,099 pounds compared to 2,189 pounds in 2007.
Water releases increased less than 0.1% from 2007 to 2008. 2008 releases were 5,950 pounds compared to 5,912 pounds in 2007.
Off-site transfers increased 18.7% in 2008. 2008 off-site transfers were 174,130 compared to 146,596 in 2007. 91% of off-site transfers were recycled, as indicated by the graphs.
Overall, Nalco’s emissions increased 15.1% in 2008 with total emissions of 182,179 pounds, compared to 154,697 in 2007.
Nalco Company continues to be actively involved with numerous education and community groups throughout the area. The Garyville facility began operation in 1970 and maintains a workforce of 200 employees, 60 of whom are contract employees. Annually, the Nalco Garyville site contributes approximately $2.8 million to St. John the Baptist tax base, over $15.8 million in payroll and $125 million in purchases to the local economy. |
